3 Tips For Handling Bills During Your Move

by Stephen Patterson

When dealing with a move, the last thing that you might want to deal with is your bills. After all, handling bills can be enough of a hassle as it is, and it can be even more of a pain when you're going through this type of big, life-changing experience. Luckily, following these three tips can help you handle your bills properly during your move.

1. Notify Your Creditors

First of all, as soon as you know where you will be moving to and when you will be moving in, it's a good idea to contact your creditors and let them know. You will need to ensure that they have your most recent address on file so that they can send you your statements and other information. Plus, you may need to make some changes; your insurance policy could change due to your moving, for example, and you may need to have your cable or other similar services moved to a new address. To help ensure that everything is done in a timely manner, you shouldn't put off contacting your creditors to let them know about your upcoming relocation.

2. Cancel Recurring Services You'll No Longer Need

Now that you are moving, there is a chance that you might not need some of the recurring services that you are currently signed up for. Look into canceling your gym membership, your newspaper service, your lawn care service and any other services that you will not need. If applicable, start looking into these services for your new location.

3. Consider Setting Up Bills on Auto-Pay

Remembering to pay all of your bills might be tough when you're dealing with the hassle of moving, and it could be difficult to get your hands on your statements and other necessities when you're in-between homes. It might be a good idea to set your bills up on auto pay, even if only for one month. Many creditors will allow you to submit an electronic check or your credit card or debit card number to have your bills drafted out automatically on their due date. Once you try it for your move, you might even find that you want to continue with the same type of payment plan in the future, too.

As you can see, there are steps that you can take to make it easier for you to handle your bills during your move. Follow these tips, and you shouldn't have to worry too much about bills while going through this major life change.
